"Being from Boise, I'm excited to give back to the forestlands where I grew up and learned to mountain bike, downhill ski, camp, and whitewater raft."
BIO
Mike's work focuses on implementing forest restoration projects within the Southwest Idaho Landscape, a U.S. Forest Service prioritized Wildfire Crisis Strategy Landscape. The goals of this work include decreasing the risk of catastrophic wildfire to communities, procuring fuelwood for Wood for Life, improving watershed health, protect recreation, sustain industry, and improve forest resilience to disturbance.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Idaho and a Master of Natural Resources from Oregon State University where he researched restoration-focused forestry. During college, he spent summers working on timber crews and fighting wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. He brings over 15 years of state forest management experience ranging from the Oregon Coast to the Northern Rocky Mountains including stints with the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), and Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Outside of state forest management, Mike has been a consultant for non-industrial (family) forest owners, enforced the Idaho Forest Practices Act, and restored federal forestlands through IDL’s Good Neighbor Authority Program.
