BIO

Matt Millar joined the NFF in 2019 as a California Program Manager in the Tahoe Area. Over several years Matt worked up to the position of Sierra Nevada Program Director, helping to build the program to include work and coordination across all nine Forest Service units in the Sierra Nevada ecoregion.

Prior to joining the NFF team, he worked for the City of Flagstaff Fire Department as the Operations Specialist for the Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project. In this role, he worked with city and Forest Service staff to support planning, outreach communication, and management of various forest thinning and fire risk reduction projects in key watershed areas important to the City of Flagstaff. Matt also worked 15 seasons as a wildland firefighter on engine, helitack, hotshot, and wildland fire module crews across the Western United States, working fires from Arizona to Alaska.

Matt received a Master of Science in Environmental Science and Policy from Northern Arizona University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Sacramento State University. In his off time, Matt enjoys exploring around in our beautiful public lands.
